COVID-19 Government Update

Richard Strachan, chairman of governors at Darnhall Primary School, hailed best in Cheshire for outstanding leadership and governance

Huge congratulations to our wonderful Chair of Governors - Mr Richard Strachan who has been awarded ‘Chair of the Year’ for his outstanding leadership and school governance.

“Richard is an exceptional Chair of Governors who has worked in this volunteer role for 23 years taking the role of Chair for almost 14 years. He has such a passion for ensuring the local community have a school that is constantly improving and offers the best education for pupils ages 2-11 including a high proportion of SEND and vulnerable children. He is supportive yet challenging as a chair and thinks about the well-being of school leaders and staff. He is very well-known and respected by staff, pupils, families and his colleague Governors.

Parental engagement and community links is something Richard actively seeks to improve. We work hard to raise the aspirations of our children and families through a range of strategies. Richard just wants the very best for each and every child.

Richard’s experience from his career in Cheshire Police and his safeguarding role in serious case reviews etc. has really benefited the school. He leads and guides the Governing Body effectively and has ensured the Governing Body has a range of people with relevant skills and attributes. This ensures the effectiveness and robustness of the strategic plan the Governors have developed over time.

We thank him for his service to our school.”

I am privileged to be Headteacher of Darnhall Primary School and Nursery (2-11 years old). It is a very special place, serving all of Winsford and its wider community.

As a school, we care deeply about providing our children with the very best education and as many chances in life as possible. We seek to ensure this through delivering a broad, exciting and engaging curriculum. We want our children to be excited about the opportunities that we offer and have the confidence and skills to be able to enjoy them and be ready for their next stage of education. Home and school are a partnership and we aspire to develop a shared love of learning between our children, staff, parents and the wider community.

When you visit Darnhall Primary, you will be impressed by the calm, nurturing and purposeful working environment, which reflects positive relationships and our school values of ‘Friendship, Following Rules, Responsibility, Resilience, Honesty and Fairness’. Great teaching across the school enables pupils to make strong academic progress. Each term, we offer a range of extra-curricular clubs, educational day and residential visits and invite a range of interesting visitors into school.

Our school offers a breakfast club for a one-off cost of £15.00 per term that is supported by the National School Breakfast Programme who provide us with cereals and bagels every day for all the children to enjoy and affordable ‘pay-for-what-you-use’ after-school childcare.

We are very proud of our school and its achievements.

If you are a parent or carer and would like to visit us or have any questions, please contact us to make an appointment to look around the school and meet our wonderful children and staff – you will be very welcome.
