Mental Health and Well-being

Sometimes our feelings can be really upsetting or scary, especially if you are not sure why you feel the way you do. Are you feeling upset, scared or worried? Thoughts and feeling can be hard to make sense of especially if you are having new feeling that you don’t understand.

Mrs Clark, Mrs Tomlinson and Mrs Chappell are our Mental Health First Aiders in school. They are trained and are here to help you.

You can of course talk to any grown up within our school and they will listen and find the best way to help you to feel better.

We also have our very own ‘Well-Being Workers’ who are two Year 5 pupils who champion the well-being of our young people.

At Darnhall, our curriculum and teaching centres on mental health and well-being. Every year the children and staff take part in the POP Project and various activities that support a ‘Healthy Body and a Healthy Mind’.

During Lockdown, we have been supporting our families by launching emotional well-being challenge cards weekly (attached to files section) which appear on our school social media platform. Families send in photographs of themselves completing the activites.

We have also set up well-being Wednesday where the children have screen free time (Year group activities attached).

Children and their families have been able to enjoy virtual asseblies based on themes to support their mental health and well-being.

Each family will also receive a pack of emotional well- being resources appropriate to the age and stage of their child/children.

We are supporting children's mental health week 2021, activities have been planned for each day of the week- Mighty Monday, Thoughtful Tuesday, Wishes Wednesday, Thankful Thursday and Friendly Friday. Photographs to follow.
