Maths
In maths this half term, we will be concentrating on interpreting and presenting a range of data. We will complete comparison, sum and difference problems linked to bar charts, pictograms, tables and other graphs.
As we move through the half term, we will also angles, 2D shapes and their properties - including triangles and quadrilaterals.

Times Tables are so important and they will definately help you with the end of year 4 assessment

English
Our new English text is 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne
At the end of this unit of work, the children will write a narrative based on the book 'Gorilla'.
Challenge
Some children will write the story from the Dad's point of view and will aim to include speech in their story.
Key focuses during our writing unit
- To use a rich vocabulary for effect and include a range of sentence types in longer pieces of writing.
- Use expanded noun and prepositional phrases.
- Choose nouns and pronouns for cohesion to avoid repetition.
- Use paragraphs to organise ideas within the story.
- Use apostrophes to show possession.
Science
Our science topic this half term is States of Matter I have attached a file to this page including some home learning activities linked to this topic. This can also be found on Class Dojo!
Reading
It is still really important to read daily and now we have our fantastic 'Go read' app there's no excuses to miss a day!

Spellings
The spellings are put on class dojo on a Monday and tested on a Friday. Please practise at home.
Humanities
This term we will be learning about the Beneath out feet, this links nicely with our reading unit of work looking at volcanoes, mining and why people move to get work. We will be covering this through Art, D&T and Geography.
PE
This year our PE lesson is on a Monday afternoon. We will be covering gymnastics focusing on making routines together.
P.E kit is navy shorts, joggers or skort and a pale blue T-Shirt. Kit is available from school. Please contact the office if you would like to order some.
Homework
Homework will be handed out on a Thursday and returned on a Monday. It will alternate between English and Maths. Over half term holidays we will offer optional topic and theme based practical activity homeworks.
