This term's text in English is going to be 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. This is one of my favourite stories and I can’t wait to see the fantastic work the children will produce.

We will be consolidating lots of skills taught in Reception to build our confidence. Plus lots of new Year 1 writing skills.

Can you use a capital letter and a full stop?

Can you use finger spaces?

Our topic in science will be Materials!

We are going to be identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for different uses. We will investigate how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Which materials will float?

Which materials will sink?

Can you identify materials that are hard?

Can you identify materials that are transparent?

Here are the home learning activities for Science, it is up to you how many you do.  Please upload any photos or videos to Class Dojo when you have completed an activity.

Reading and Phonics

Please read your child's Read Write Inc books daily with your child as this will support progress in reading and phonics and build your child's confidence. Within the text there are tricky words, speedy words and comprehension questions too. Visit to access Read Write Inc books.

Reading should be fun and an enjoyable experience so we try to encourage a passion for reading by reading a wide range of books in school.  Why not visit the library to discover some new books and authors your child hasn’t seen before.

Our class author is Julia Donaldson each week we will be reading some of her stories, she has written over 120 books so we have lots to choose from!

On Monday spellings will be given out to children to learn for a test on Friday.  Here is a list of spellings that the children will receive each week.  The date at the top of the column is the date that the test will take place.
