Miss Harrison and I are SO excited to be working with you all this year! We are looking forward to helping you learn something new everyday so below I have included some information about what we will be learning about in Year 2 during autumn term. 


This half term in maths we are are learning to lots about the value of number.

We will be 

-Counting and representing numbers to 100

-Understanding tens and ones using resources and place value grids

-Comparing and ordering 2 digit numbers

-Counting in 2,5 and 10s


Times Tables

Year 2 is where the children begin to learn their times tables and by the end of the year the children are expected to know their 2s, 5s and 10 times tables.

This term we will be reading the book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.

We will be consolidating lots of skills taught in year 1 to build our cofidnece and lots of new year 2 writing skills. 

Have a you know what an adjective is?

Can you use a capital letter and a full stop?

Can you use the suffixes ed, er, est and ing?

Can you use expanded noun phrases to add more description?

Don't worry if not! We will be learning all about this in our English lessons.

Week 14 of Home Learning

By the end of year 2 the children are expected to be able to read and spell the above common exception words. Please practise these regulary with your child. You could use rainbow writing, write them in a pyramid, practise them in a sentence or find them in reading books.


Reading and Phonics 

Please read your child's Read Write Inc books daily with your child, as this will support progress in reading and phoics and build your child's confidence. Within the text there are tricky words, speedy words and comprehension questions too. Vist to access Read Write Inc books. Please record any reading in your child's online reading log on so we can track and update your child's reading. 

We try and encourage our children to read for pleasure and have a passion for reading as it will stimulate their brain, grown their vocabulary and stregthen their reading ability. 

Each half term in Bumblebee class I recommend 5 reads and encourage the children to try and read all 5 by the end of the half term. If they achive this then they'll be awarded with a certificate and a prize.

These texts are texts that adults or older sibblings could read and model good fluency and expression. You could also discuss new vocabualry and ask questions about the text.

Our topic in science will be Materials!

We are going to be identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for different uses. We will investigate how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

This half term in Geography, we are looking at Winsford and Beyond!
We will be using an atlas to locate countries, seas and oceans and capital cities from the United Kingdom and beyound. We will be using our map skills to local physical and human feautures and looking at ariel photographs. 


Our PE day is every Thursday afternoon, please remember to send your children in a full Darnhall Primary School PE kit.

We will be taking part in gymnastics and learning lots of new skills! We will be learning to identify and use simple gymnastics actions and shapes, to apply basic strength to a range of gymnastics actions, learn how to carry basic apparatus and learn how to link their shapes and actions.
