This term's text in English is going to be 'The Lion Inside' by Rachel Bright. This is an amazing book and it's going to help us produce some fantastic pieces of writing!

We will be consolidating lots of skills taught in year 1 to build our cofidnece. Plus lots of new year 2 writing skills.

Have a you know what an adjective, is?

Can you use a capital letter and a full stop?

Can you use the suffixes ed, er, est and ing?

Can you use expanded noun phrases to add more description?

Don't worry if not! We will be learning all about this in our English lessons.

Our topic in science will be Materials!

We are going to be identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for different uses. We will investigate how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Please find a copy of the knowledge organiser on our dojo page.

Which materials will float?

Which materials will sink?

Can you idenitfy materials that are hard?

Can you identify materials that are transparent?

Week 14 of Home Learning

To practise these you could use rainbow writing, or write them in a pyramid, practise them in a sentence or find them in your reading books.

Reading and Phonics

Please read your child's Read Write Inc books daily with your child as this will support progress in reading and phoics and build your child's confidence. Within the text there are tricky words, speedy words and comprehension questions too. Vist to access Read Write Inc books.

We try and encourage our children to read for pleasure and have a passion for reading as it will stimulate their brain, grown their vocabulary and stregthen their reading ability.

Each half term in Bumblebee class I recommend 5 reads and encourage the children to try and read all 5 by the end of the half term. If they achive this then they'll be awarded with a certificate and a prize.

These texts are texts that adults or older sibblings could read and model good fluency and expression. You could also discuss new vocabualry and ask questions about the text.

This link is the top 100 reads in year 2. Have a look and visit your local library to explore the stories
