Key Stage 1 - Cherry ( Year 1 & 2 ) 2019 - 2020

Miss Evans

Welcome to Cherry Class!

Miss Evans and Miss Pond would like to welcome you to our class page. We are certain we will have lots of fun learning at school every day, as we have many exciting lessons and visits planned for the year. What a fun year we have organised!

This half-term, we are basing our writing around 'The Owl afraid of the dark' by by Jill Tomlinson.

During this half term the children will be delving deep into the non-fiction world. They will be learning about owls and doing lots of discussing and researching for their final piece of writing. Their final piece of writing is a non-chronological.  During this half term the children will be delving deep into the non-fiction world. They will be learning lots about owls. Class days

P.E.

During P.E this term we will be learning yoga and gymnastics. P.E Kits should be in school everyday and include a white t- shirt, shorts and pumps. You may chose to include a P.E jumper, some jogging bottoms and trainers as the weather gets colder.

Reading:

Sharing books with your child and listening to them read regularly at home is essential to the development of their reading skills. Ideally, the children should read for 10 minutes at home every day. We will continue to listen to the children as much as possible in class; all children participate in whole class and guided reading sessions.

If there are any parents or grandparents who are able to spend some time listening to children read it would be very much appreciated - the children really enjoy reading to other people.

We have a whole school reward of frequent reader books. These are awarded to the children in assemblies.

Please remember your child will need to bring in their reading book and Reading Record to school each day.

Phonics

Everyday your child takes part in a fun phonics session. We teach phonics daily as it teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. In the session they learn to form each letter, spell correctly, and compose their ideas step-by-step.
